CAPACITY CROWD AT FESTIVAL CAN’T STOP LAUGHING
An small laugh riot broke out following the end of a sold out screening of Laughology at the Hot Docs film festival in Toronto. Even after the film ended the audience at Isabel Bader theatre continued to laugh for several minutes. The lights had been turned and the screen was blank and bursts of laughter went on unabated. The laughter only ended when Hot Docs programmer Lynne Fernie asked for questions, which caused more laughter.
Laughology is about why laughter is contagious and demonstrates some of the natural and little known triggers for contagious laughter.
CROWD IN “HYSTERICS”
“The screening had some of the loudest collective laughs I had ever heard in a movie theatre,” wrote film reviewer Gabor Pertic in AnE Vibe. “By the end, the crowd was in hysterics.”
The National Post called Laughology “screamingly funny” and the Globe and Mail called it “Wonderfully funny.” According to Lia Granger in the National Post “laughter has never been so thoroughly explored in a film as it is here.”
The CBC (Canadian Broadcasting Corporation) called the film “revolutionary, highly recommended and “a completely new way of looking at laughter.”
Laughology, directed by Albert Nerenberg, is a hilarious ground breaking look at why laughter is contagious and the birth of the international laughter movement. The feature documentary, produced for CTV, sold out weeks before Hot Docs.
FEATURES MAN WITH “MOST CONTAGIOUS LAUGH IN THE WORLD”
The film features Doug Collins, a man widely considered to have the most contagious laugh in the world. While on a press tour in Toronto, Collins laugh was put the test. At MTV, Collins was toured around the building to see if his laugh really would precipitate more laughter. It did so in every case. A video of Collins at MTV is here.
Director Albert Nerenberg outlined the new neuroscience of contagious laughter at Idea City in Toronto, June 19th.
